Abroad Experiences

Secondary School English Teacher   Talas, Kyrgyzstan                         

Peace Corps Kyrgyzstan

  • Co-taught 18 hours a week of high school English language lessons with a local English teacher.

  • Prepared, administered, and graded tests to evaluate student progress.

  • Founded a student-led English Committee, which initiated student-led clubs and peer mentorship opportunities.

 

Gender and Development Committee Member   Kyrgyzstan            

  • Worked with local Kyrgyz staff, students, and individuals to produce gender aware classroom activities, camps, and workshops.

Mother Daughter Conference                                                                                        

  • Co-coordinated a 2-day conference for twelve mother-daughter pairs from three different regions of Kyrgyzstan and six speakers from three local non-profit organizations.

Leading Healthy Lives                                                                                                 

  • Co-administered a 5 day Leading Healthy Lives camp for 50 students ages 12-16, promoting sexual and reproductive health education, gender equative practices, and healthy habits.

Olympiad                                                                                                                       

  • Co-wrote, designed, and executed a five-day intensive English camp which increased the involvement of students from rural areas in sustainable English programs and competitions, and introduced formal and informal mentorship opportunities for such programs. 

  • Trained and supervised eleven camp counselors to oversee camper safety and co-teach English.

 Senior Thesis: A Study on Perceptions in College Readiness Across Secondary Education

  • Critically analyzed and compared the introspective and extrospective perceptions of college readiness across groups of traditional university age students from charter, public, and private secondary schools. 

  • Conducted multiple focus-group interviews with university students employing effective critical thinking and interviewing skills.

Kyrgyz – Intermediate High

Completed Peace Corps Kyrgyzstan’s intensive Kyrgyz language training 

  • Eleven weeks of intensive Kyrgyz language study accompanied by a homestay experience. 

  • Lived with a Kyrgyz host family for 17 months and spoke Kyrgyz as the primary language at home.

French – Intermediate

  • One semester/ 15-week program included six weeks of intensive French training, and a language immersive home stay experience.

  • Eight weeks of intensive Russian language study online, with three hours a day of synchronized instruction.

African Network against Illiteracy, Conflict, and Human Rights Abuse (ANICHRA)

  • Developed and instructed a 6-hour Professional Development seminar at a local community college: Heritage Educational Higher Institute for Peace and Development Studies (HEHIPEDS).

  • Produced and taught two citizenship education courses for Form 7 students at a local primary school: Quality International Education.

  • Wrote an organizational critique of the operation of ANICHRA and HEHIPEDS.

  • Wrote a broad range of curricula for Afghani students.

  • Raised $20,000 to support the local non-profit and send teachers abroad to deliver curriculum.

  • Visited U.S. schools studying Children’s Culture Connection curriculum and spoke to students to emphasize the importance of education and civic engagement on a global level.
